![]() That's when the fire comes out.Īs far as Crane going around Old Town asking everyone if they've seen Jade, I'm sure part of it had to do with his infatuation with her, but she also had the Doc's files on the disease, and he needed to make sure they got safely to the other Doc, whose lab he had just been informed was full of infected and surrounded by Rais' men. She doesn't actually get pissed at him until he admits to her everything about the GRE and Rais and why he's in Harran. She just tells him to stay away because seeing him makes her think of Rahim, which I imagine is a pain she doesn't want to revisit. Fast-forward one trip to Old Town later, and when Crane finally gets to talk to her again, she still doesn't exactly blame Crane. Understandable, really, since she probably doesn't want to have meltdown in front of everybody. In the little time that part of the story gets to develop, Jade walks in on Brecken and Crane discussing it, and runs out before anything can be said. I honestly don't think she blamed Crane for Rahim's death. The wiki says two things about Jade's personality: she's level-headed, but she's also fiercely protective of Rahim. Obviously Rahim is own man, so Crane can't really babysit him, and we all know how that ends. Either that, or she (correctly) suspects Crane has another motive for being there and uses that to spur him towards tasks and goals that would be mutually advantageous for both of them.Ĭrane isn't necessarily responsible for Rahim's safety, but during the scene in the school mission where he and Jade find the explosives, Crane gives her his word that he won't let Rahim go near the nest to blow it up. The trust she places in him up front to handle important missions for the Tower seems a bit rushed, but if we're talking hypotheticals here, then it's possible Rahim spoke up for him, which nudged her in that direction. I did mention in my ode to Jade that Crane is unnaturally infatuated with her (which I imagine was just the writing team attempting to amp up the drama of the coming death scene), but I don't see how blame can be placed at Jade's feet for that. ![]() I'm an "accentuate the positive" kind of guy. I certainly don't expect everyone to agree with me, and dislike of Jade means more Jade for me. Everyone's experience is a little different :) And I won't ever, but that's the beauty of video games and shaping your own opinion of the story and characters. In fact, if she'd just been around in more missions to interact with directly, and we'd see a clear progression of time spent with Crane, I'd have bought into his behaviour. Otherwise? Grade A female hero material, and I'd have loved to see her as a fully playable character if they'd stuck to the split story campaign thing that supposedly would have featured her in more detail. ![]() It made him look whiny, foolish, and impulsive, rather than goodhearted and compassionate as the rest of the story (in particular side quests) painted him to be. ![]() In fact, he barely knew him, or anyone else in the Tower for that matter, and neither did he have the time to sit around there and make sure he doesn't get himself into trouble.īut Crane obviously felt responsible, much like he apparently did for what happened to Amir, but how this all gets translated into such a narrow focus of "Have you seen Jade? Where's Jade? Can I talk to Jade?" really annoyed me. And when shit goes down with Rahim? That she blamed him was absolute meh, since he is her brother, and Crane had no responsibility whatsoever to make sure the kid doesn't do something stupid. The most tangible criticism that I have for her is the absolute obsession Crane has with her after only exchanging a handful of lines, and how she was used as a focal plot point that we, the player, should have cared about equally.Īt the end of the day, talked to her brother more than her, even learned more about him and his struggle than about Jade until the very end. I've got a torch held high for Lena.īack to Jade though, and really, this is all just my opinion, and maybe I'm being a little dense because I'm invested in Crane's character more than I am in Jade's. Personally though, she's no-where near my favourite, even in Dying Light. And would probably make her writer(s) proud. I think Jade could be an amazing character if given the chance, and you've done a great write up there on what's under the surface.
